1) What is SUP?

SUP’s can either be hardboard or inflatable. SUP means stand up paddleboard. ISUP means inflatable stand up paddleboard. SUP’s are wider, longer, and have more buoyancy than regular surfboards. The structure of a SUP enables paddlers to comfortably balance and challenge themselves in different ways than basic surf has offered in the past. Aside from being another method of hitting the waves, SUP has introduced a new way of staying active, fit, strengthening core, and gaining overall body stability. This form of innovative exercise is extremely fun and effective, as a result SUP has continued to grow and gain interest in society today.

2) What is the history of SUP?

The history of SUP varies depending on the outlook. Some would consider SUP as one of the oldest watersports known, while others would consider it the newest. Surf as we know it has been around since Polynesian times, with a 300 year pause in popularity. It was reintroduced in the 60’s by the Waikiki “beach boys” in Hawaii. Modernized equipment and material has resulted in the most recent evolution of SUP. Heavy redwood boards from Polynesian times could not be placed on a vehicle without damaging the board or the vehicle. Today, the option for solid epoxy boards and inflatable SUP’s have made transportation boards easier, lighter, and sensible.
